FAQs

  • Where should I start?

I recommend starting with a free 15-minute consultation call. Because therapy hinges on the relationship between the therapist and the client, it is important to see if I am a good fit for your needs and personality before scheduling your first appointment. You can schedule a consultation call by clicking on the "Contact" page of this website and filling out the form.

  • How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for me?

The best way to figure this out is to schedule a 15-minute consultation call, which will give you a feel for how our interactions will go in therapy sessions. The most important factors in this decision are that you feel comfortable being honest and vulnerable with the therapist, and that you feel confident the therapist can help you with your specific goals.

I recommend looking at the therapist's specific areas of expertise, education, and training to see if they have experience addressing your concerns.

I also recommend making sure the therapist is within your price range and/or accepts your insurance coverage, that your schedule aligns with the therapist's, and if the therapist can accommodate the frequency of appointments you are looking for (ie. meeting weekly or bi-weekly).

  • If I decide I want to work with you, what happens next?

After our consultation call, we will begin by scheduling an intake appointment. I will email you initial paperwork, including a preliminary questionnaire, history form, and depression/ anxiety screeners. During your intake, we will review your paperwork together, discuss your counseling goals in more depth, and address any questions or concerns you may have. I will ask you questions to learn more about you and your history. From there, we will work together to create a treatment plan over the course of a few sessions. A treatment plan is a roadmap that guides our work together. It usually includes goals for treatment, how we will know when you've met those goals, and an initial timeframe for therapy.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Yes. I currently accept Cigna, Aetna, Anthem, United, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Kaiser, Oxford, Oscar Health, Carelon and Quest Behavioral Health insurance plans. If you do not see your plan listed but would like to work together, I also accept self-pay clients at the rates of $150 per individual session and $185 per family session. Sliding scale options are available. Please contact me if sliding scale may be a good fit for you.

  • How often should I come for counseling sessions?

We will decide on session frequency at your intake appointment. I generally start with new clients on a weekly basis and then transition to a bi-weekly basis when clients feel they have achieved some progress and stabilization. Once your issues are sufficiently addressed and mental health maintenance becomes the goal, I often see clients on a monthly or as-needed basis. This will be an ongoing discussion throughout your treatment.

It's important to note that healing is not linear; sometimes clients start on a weekly basis, then transition to a bi-weekly or even a monthly basis, and then find themselves needing to return to a weekly basis for a time due to situational stressors or challenges. That's okay! I'm here to accommodate you on whatever schedule you need.

  • Do you provide in-person or virtual counseling?

Both! I see clients in-person at my office in Sunnyside on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00-6:00 PM. I also offer virtual sessions on Mondays from 12:00-6:00 PM and on Tuesdays. Because I am a part-time clinician, my in-person time slots are limited.

There are merits to both in-person and telehealth treatment: some people prefer the flexibility and ease of telehealth, while others find in-person to provide a more authentic connection. Some of my clients alternate between the two depending on their schedules. We can discuss your preferences and needs during your consultation call and intake appointment.

  • I don't live in Colorado. Can you still be my therapist?

I am only licensed to practice counseling in the state of Colorado. However, I do provide coaching services to clients who live outside of Colorado.

Coaching is slightly different than counseling. While counseling focuses on emotions, experiences, and a process of deep self-inquiry, coaching is usually more short-term and focuses on setting and achieving specific behavior goals.

Please note that coaching is not covered by insurance and requires you to pay self-pay or sliding scale rates.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, please be sure to cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours ahead of your scheduled appointment time. If you cancel less than 24 hours ahead of your appointment or do not show up to your appointment, you will be charged the full rate of the session.

This is important because an appointment slot is being reserved specifically for you, and because I have such limited availability to see clients.

  • What if I am in crisis and it is after hours?

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis/ emergency, please call the local hotline at 1-844-493-8255, text "TALK" to 38255, dial 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.

Please do not contact me via this website, email, or phone when in a mental health crisis. This is because I cannot guarantee an immediate response, and my number one priority is your safety.
